The always constant, “Change”.
Unfortunately, after the 3 months, and wonderful success, she then gained 3 kg very quickly and found it hard to get it off. I shared with her that lasting change takes consistent efforts, that have to come from within – conscious habits and choices. Structured programs that assist you to lose weight are important, and can be fantastic, however because there is no internal change in thoughts, the external does not last.
I believe that change has to be a constant choice, effort, and only once your beliefs, values, and emotions are invested, will it become a lasting success. As always, easy to say, may be more challenging to do. Habits, could possibly the simplest way create change, while you sort our your beliefs, and values. Consistent development of improved habits, allow you to be on autopilot, and still get the results you are looking for. These habitual changes do not need to be huge. Just make sure you know where you are headed, and make progress, bit by bit.
For this lady’s example: After the weight loss program finished, she should continue to cultivate the eating habits /portion size/ food choices that was emphasized in the program, that she enjoyed, and found to be valuable. Do this small steps at a time. Make it manageable. Doing this, she may not need to stick religiously and repeat the program once its complete, however, maintaining those certain habits, and then shifting your thoughts and beliefs to prioritize this new habit, allows it to stick, and ultimately makes it easier to keep in the long term.
The result: – Not feeling like she is still dieting, and subsequently maintaining her gains (loss of weight) long term.
Remember, there are always fluctuations, so don’t be too hard on yourself, enjoy the processes, make it simple, and most of all, reward yourself for your efforts!
